The main event of the Triennial will be the opening of an artistically and professionally high-quality exhibition that will reflect the innovative phenomena and trends in the field of textile and fibre art in Europe and the wider world; alongside it will promote the prestige of Latvian art beyond the borders of the country.

After the decision of an International Jury, 88 artists from 26 countries – the Baltic and Nordic countries, Poland, France, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Israel, the USA, Russia, Japan, etc., will participate in the show. The Triennial will host two world-renowned textile artists: Sheila Hicks (France / USA) and Jon Eric Riis (USA). The exhibition will be complemented by works of the prominent Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz (1930–2017).

Alongside the Triennial exhibition, which will be on the show at the ARSEN?LS Exhibition Hall, a number of satellite activities are being planned: a visiting exhibition La couleur des Gobelins from Le Mobilier National (Paris, France) at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Egils Rozenberg’s  solo exhibition “Transfiguration” at the Latvian National Museum of Art, several artists’ solo exhibitions in Riga galleries (Ieva Kr?mi?a, Rolands Krutovs, etc.).  The Triennial will be enriched by Art Academy of Latvia student creative workshops and a two-day International Conference at the Art Museum RIGA BOURSE. The speakers at the conference will be guest lecturers from Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, USA, United Kingdom, Finland, Sweden, France, etc.

Due to the centenary celebrations, this year, in the upcoming international forum for textiles, the creative achievements of artists from Latvia and other Baltic countries will be especially highlighted. During the Triennial, in cooperation with the artists of all the Baltic States, the Days of Baltic Art will be organized, and after the Triennial a special travelling Baltic textile and fibre art exhibition will start its journey to different venues abroad. We presume that the exhibition and the supplementary events will be educational and of interest to our visitors.

This project will reveal the mutual relation between artist and society today, and will accentuate national or ethnographic roots of different cultures. The theme IDENTITY will unfold in a wide range of aspects: historical, social, artistic, personal, philosophical.
